How to apply for Medicare in Georgia?

Some people get Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B automatically while other people must sign up for those benefits. It usually depends on whether you are receiving Social Security benefits.

If you will be receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits at least 4 months before you turn 65 the following applies to you.

  1. You will automatically get Part A and Part B starting the first day of the month you turn 65. If your birthday is on the first day of the month, Part A and Part B will start the first day of the prior month.

  2. Most people should enroll in Part A when they turn 65, but other people may choose to delay Part B. Find more about whether you should take Part B by clicking here.

  3. You don’t need to sign up since you will automatically get Part A and Part B.

If you will NOT be receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits at least 4 months before you turn 65 the following applies to you.

  1. You will need to sign up with Social Security to get Part A and Part B.

  2. Most people should enroll in Part A when they turn 65, but other people may choose to delay Part B. Find more about whether you should take Part B by clicking here.

  3. Sign up in the following ways:
